Water, which is essential to life, is often used as a symbol of the Spirit of God. In John 4:14 Jesus tells us we will 'never thirst' again when we 'drink this water'. But, the Holy Spirit is a part is the triune Godhead and a person like the Father & Son. Holy Spirit is not an 'it' or even a 'force' but 'He'.
